About me

I love life, adventure, peace, and community. I’m curious. I love to learn, create, and discover. I’m grateful for so many wonderful people in my life.

There’s a good chance you’ll find me outdoors, at the beach or in the mountains——traveling, exercising, or just taking a stroll. Let’s take a walk together and discover what life can be.

About my work

I work to discover the secrets of the universe——and often find fun applications along the way.

My expertise in theoretical physics spans quantum and classical stochastic processes, nonequilibrium thermodynamics, and the physics of information. I'm currently obsessing over whether AI is attaining optimal performance in learning, and how it encodes the requisite mixed-state metadynamic.

Beyond physics

I enjoy writing, coding in Python, building predictive mathematical models, linear algebra, long walks on the beach. Who doesn’t? I’m enjoying integrating physics with other aspects of my life, in the interpersonal and business realms.

I recently co-founded the Beyond Institute for Theoretical Science (BITS), which nurtures community enthusiastic about the physics of information (broadly interpreted), and creates new opportunities for courageous investigation to thrive.

I’ve also co-founded Simplex, which develops the cognitive science of artificial intelligence —— to enable understanding, benchmarks, and interventions for future AI.

If you want to work together, or get my input on a project, make a pitch.
